When the Children Cry

So I realize it's been awhile. However, I've spent the last 2 months working at a KFC in a small town in Nova Scotia where the biggest issue has been the fact that we've discontinued Extra Crispy chicken. So yeah, not a lot to talk about.

Today that changed with a little purchase I made at my local mall. I indulged in the ultimate guilty pleasure for the serious music fan, I bought a value-priced two cd Power Ballads compilation. The only thing I can compare that to is ordering three scoops of ice cream when you're on a diet.

Anyway the cd is jam packed with 30 delicious power ballads, some of them I don't know by the titles but I am sure I will know when I hear them as I am frequent watcher of the MuchMoreRetro channel and they love to play that shit.

I used to be cool. I used to snort in disgust when I heard power ballads and laugh because everything I listened was far superior. Then I downloaded "More Than Words" by Extreme (included on this compilation) and openly admited I enjoyed it but no other power ballads, of course.

That is where the downward spiral began and I don't mean the Nine Inch Nails album.

Then I over time I downloaded "Every Rose Has Its Thorn", "Here I Go Again", "I Can't Fight This Feeling" and then most disgustingly "High Enough" by Damn Yankees.

Now here I am spending 14.99 on a two disc Power Ballad compilation. What the fuck happened?

Sure I could shrug it off by saying I enjoy these songs ironically because they are just SO ridiculous that they're enjoyable. But that would be too hipster of me and I am so not a hipster.
I could also bite the bullet and say I like power ballads because they appeal to some sappy part of my being that enjoys this kind of crap but I am not even sure if that is accurate either.

I guess I really don't know why I enjoy power ballads and I am ok with that.

So excuse me while I crank "When the Children Cry" by White Lion and enjoy a good laugh at the hilarious cliche lyrics and whiny vocals. I may no longer be cool but at least I am having a helluva lot more fun.
